Open to all skill levels
The focus of these classes is to build the foundation of your jiu-jitsu with solid fundamentals and techniques that are applicable to both self-defense situations as well as tournament jiu-jitsu. We will also cover the Team Rhino Drills that are necessary to advance your skill level and progress guiding you from beginner to blue belt and beyond. Rolling and sparring is limited to controlled situational drills that will get you more comfortable with the techniques covered during class.
ADVANCED BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
Open to all skill levels, however, your participation will be limited during certain techniques, and during any sparring/open rolling until you have attained the rank of Green Belt within the Team Rhino system.
Advanced classes will, as the name suggests, focus on more advanced techniques and positions in jiu-jitsu. We will also begin to chain techniques and positions together in combinations that may be confusing for newer students. Also, advanced class is often sparring and open rolling followed by breaking down techniques used during the roll. "Hey, how did you escape that arm bar!?" We will also cover the drills and techniques that are necessary to advance to Purple, Brown, and Black Belt within the Team Rhino system. The instructor has the FINAL say on your participation in Advanced Class, if they ask you to skip a technique or roll with a different partner it is for safety reasons. Think of it like a life guard telling someone not to swim into the deep end, it is nothing personal, just a safety concern.
Open to all skill levels, however, your participation will be limited during any sparring/open rolling until you have attained the rank of Green Belt within the Team Rhino system.
Open mat is an unstructured time for teammates to spar, roll, drill, work out, figure out technique, etc... it is open. There is no lesson plan, the instructor is there to answer any questions, work on their own, and above all maintain safety. You are highly encouraged to make arrangements with a teammate ahead of time to meet up and train instead of showing up and just hoping someone wants to work the same thing you do.
Open to kids ages 4-8 and their parents.
Our kids program is entirely focused on building a positive experience with physical activity, teamwork, and jiu-jitsu. We partner kids with their parents as we play games that focus on the fundamental movements and ideas of jiu-jitsu in a safe and controlled environment. We use a mixture of basic exercises, tumbling, fitness and agility challenges, as well as jiu-jitsu to give kids and parents a fun and varied workout and learning experience. Parental participation at this age is mandatory, so be ready to get a work out as well!
We do not allow the children to practice any jiu-jitsu with one another until they have earned two stripes on their white belts (approximately 50 classes) and even then it is all positional and NO submissions are applied.
We will be adding a 9-12 age group and a 13-16 youth program as soon as possible. Please check back for updates.
Open to all skill levels.
This class will focus on techniques that are mostly applicable to street self-defense scenarios such as being grabbed from behind or pinned against a wall. All jiu-jitsu can be used in self-defense, however an unskilled opponent will have much different tactics and reactions and has no reason to adhere to any rules enforced during sport jiu-jitsu.
